Can I Drink Alcohol If I Have Covid

Drinking alcohol can cure Covid 19 and reduces the risk of getting infected by the virus in the first place. You must have heard such news or rumors, should I say, haven’t you? It is one of the negative aspects of social media that such false news spreads really fast.

If you have tested Covid positive then stop thinking about passing the whole day by drinking some wine, or beer. In fact, you should keep yourself deprived of any kind of alcohol. That is what is best for your health.

Drinking alcohol can increase the complexity and chances of some other problems. Keep reading to learn why you should not drink alcohol when you are affected by Coronavirus.

Alcohol Is Not Recommended

If you have tested Covid positive, no wonder you are feeling a little nervous and worried. And drinking some wine may help you to calm your nerves. But you should not do that. It can be very bad for your health.

WHO says that drinking alcohol does not lower the risk of getting caught by Covide; rather it only increases. Yes, you heard it right. Drinking alcohol will only increase your chance of catching covid. You should not drink covid while suffering from corona because:

It Increases Your Risk

During the pandemic time, you must have heard or seen such things on social media that drinking alcohol helps with Covid condition. Unfortunately, though, there is no scientific proof of this claim. It was just a rumor that spread, courtesy of social media.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization said that drinking alcohol can increase health risks after getting affected by Coronavirus. Drinking alcohol leads to several health problems that will make you more vulnerable to Covid.

WHO suggested that people should reduce the amount of alcohol consumption in order to stay safe from getting Covid. And if you are already suffering from Covid and spending your days alone in quarantine, do not think of alcohol. Why? It leads to our second point.

Your Immune System Becomes Weak

You do not need to be a doctor to know this, everyone knows it. Your immune system is your natural safeguard. If it becomes weak, then you become vulnerable not only to covid but to any other disease.

Alcohol has a serious impact on your immune system. Even if you are consuming alcohol moderately on a daily basis, then your immune system loses its strength. It becomes difficult for the system to defend your body.

You need a strong immune system to defeat Covid, and for that, you should stop drinking if you are already a regular. It will give your immune system a boost, and perhaps this decision of not drinking will save your life.

You Can Face Dehydration

Doctors suggest drinking a lot of water when someone is infected by covid. You should do it too. Drink water, not alcohol. When you drink alcohol, you will need to pee more and as the urine production gets increased.

It happens because when alcohol is consumed, it travels to the kidneys, where it inhibits the production of vasopressin, a hormone that regulates the body’s water balance. Besides, drinking alcohol will reduce your thirst for water, which is a big problem, especially when you are suffering from covid.

Alcohol can also cause diarrhea, which can increase your dehydration process. Additionally, alcohol can cause blood vessels to widen, leading to increased sweating and further fluid loss from the body.

You Need Mental Strength

Staying mentally strong and positive is very important to fight any disease. If you are stressed or depressed, then your chance of recovery decreases. Drinking excessive alcohol can make you feel lost and alone.

Since there is yet no definite medicine that can cure Covid, staying positive is challenging. You need your full conscious effort. If you are high and not in the proper sense, you will be gulped by sadness, and your chance of survival will decrease.

Medicines Won’t Work

If you are suffering from Covid and have been prescribed some medicines by your doctor, then take them properly. Avoid drinking alcohol. If you consume both alcohol and medicine, your liver may prioritize metabolizing the alcohol over the medication, leading to decreased effectiveness of the drug.

What Can You Drink?

So you can see that drinking alcohol is quite unwise when you are suffering from Covid. So, what are some good options you have?

Water

Obviously, there can be no better option than water. You should try to drink as much water as you can. It will save you from dehydration and make your immune system stronger. Remember, dehydration can make the covid symptoms (dry cough, fever, dry throat) worse.

Coconut Water

You cannot drink water all the time. Your taste bud has the right to ask for something tastier. Coconut water is a great option. It contains antibacterial and anti-viral properties to fight infections.

Herbal Tea

Herbal teas, such as chamomile, ginger, or peppermint, can help soothe sore throats, ease congestion, and reduce inflammation. Especially, drinking ginger tea is very effective since it soothes your throat and improves coughing.

Citrus Drinks

You need to consume vitamin C more than regular. It boosts your immune system. And citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are good sources of vitamin C.

Soups and broths

Soups and broths can nourish the body and help you in two major ways:

  • Making your immune system stronger
  • Reducing inflammation

Besides, you can add some healthy ingredients to soup and also add some flavor to satisfy your taste bud.

Conclusion

When you are affected by Covid, you should in no way drink alcohol. It will only put your life in more danger. Instead, try some healthy drinks that we have suggested to improve your immune system and defeat covid faster.
